Making notes
Build the tall hat and gold band, then count the facial marks under its brim. Place the four jacket buttons as two pairs before extending the separate legs and outward boot toes.
This flat toy-soldier silhouette has a tall cap, moustached face, small white beard and double-breasted jacket. Four gold button squares provide the costume detail without epaulettes, tassels or striped trousers.
Start at the short black crown on row 2 and widen to the seven-bead cap band. Place the gold stripe on row 4 before building the face below. Count the black eyes and moustache separately, then add the white beard down the jacket center. Work the four buttons into the red torso and finish each leg with its outward toe. Black serves both the large cap and tiny facial marks, so an extra dark cell can swallow the peach nose area. Keep the small light break inside the moustache as printed. Two columns of gold buttons must stay separated vertically; keep a red jacket row between the two pairs.
Pattern layout and bead count
Use one square board for the 23×23 field. The active soldier is only nine columns wide, occupying columns 8–16 and rows 2–21. Preserve the empty lane between the legs and the wide side margins. Those margins are guide space, not an instruction to widen the torso. Checkpoints: Row 4 is seven Cheddar beads across columns 9–15, forming the hat band. Gold jacket buttons sit at rows 14 and 16, columns 10 and 14: four individual beads. Rows 18–20 keep column 12 empty between the legs; row 21 widens each boot outward. The short Black crown at row 2 occupies columns 11–13, centered above the wider cap.
Ways to customize this pattern
Recolor the jacket to blue while preserving the gold buttons and pale beard. This is a flat decorative figure; it has no working jaw or nut-cracking mechanism.
The list contains 58 Black P18, 39 Red P05, 19 Peach P33, 15 White P01 and 11 Cheddar P57 beads. Seven Cheddar beads form the hat stripe and four form the individual buttons. White separates side hair and beard from the red uniform; collapsing those pale regions into skin would reduce costume clarity.
Print and iron checklist
The tall hat sits above a narrow face and the boots are separated by a blank channel. Support both legs as the soldier leaves the pegs rather than lifting it by the cap. Keep the jacket flat while cooling so the two feet do not twist in opposite directions. Follow brand-specific heating instructions and cool both boots resting flat. Before export, verify the 23×23 coordinates, 142-bead total and the selected brand’s merged color counts against the on-page material list.
Project ideas for Little Nutcracker Soldier
Arrange several narrow toy soldiers on a mantel card or festive display backing. Keep a little space between their outward-pointing boots. Attach a hanging thread through the support card so it carries the weight instead of the small crown.
The source grid uses A and the other design symbols only as internal color roles. The interactive chart replaces them with the selected manufacturer codes, while its material list combines any roles that map to the same bead color.
