Pixel coordinates from the top-left. The outline shows what will be converted.

8–160 stitches across; height follows the crop. Up to 600 rows / 96,000 squares. Transparent areas are unstitched; white is a thread color.

Generating replaces the current chart; Undo keeps the previous grid. Changes to these controls apply when you generate.

Fabric & export

Finished stitched area —

One full stitch per fabric square. Size excludes framing and cutting margins.

PNG uses the current view. PDF always uses black-and-white symbols: overview, 40 × 40 chart sections, then the complete color key. Print at 100% / actual size.

Names use Latin characters in the PDF; other characters are replaced with “?”. No thread-length or skein estimate.

Tap a square to edit. Scroll inside the chart to see every stitch. Keyboard: arrow keys move, Space applies the selected tool. Symbols stay the same in the PDF and key.

The conversion limit applies when generating. Manual edits can use up to 64 actual colors; unused colors have no symbol or stitch count.

Thread colors & stitch counts

Blank squares are fabric, not stitches. Counts are full crosses, not thread quantities.

Keep the shapes that matter

Crop close to your subject before converting. A wider grid keeps more small details but adds stitches. Use crisp sampling for pixel artwork or average sampling for a photograph; compare the chart with the source, then paint or erase stray squares. This tool makes full crosses only — no automatic backstitch or fractional stitches.

Choose the finished size

Fabric count means stitches per inch when stitching one square at a time on Aida. Divide the chart width and height by 14, 16 or 18 for inches; multiply by 2.54 for centimeters. A 70 × 56 chart on 14-count fabric has a stitched area of 5 × 4 inches (12.70 × 10.16 cm). The same chart is smaller on higher-count fabric. Add your own border and framing allowance before cutting.

Print symbols, not guesswork

The symbol PDF includes a whole-chart overview with section boundaries, chart pages with global row and column coordinates and heavier lines every ten stitches, and a complete DMC key with per-color counts. Empty squares stay empty. The PNG, current preview, symbols and counts all read the same edited grid.

About the DMC color matches

This tool uses a community compilation of 489 DMC Six-Strand Embroidery Floss entries (Mouliné Spécial, art. 117), not every DMC product line. Blanc, B5200 and Ecru remain distinct. Variegated, Color Variations, Light Effects, Satin and Metallic Pearl are not included.

Matches are the nearest CIE76 color candidates from approximate screen RGB values. They are not physical measurements, official equivalences or a promise that your screen matches real floss. Check your choices against a physical DMC color card in your working light and stitch a small sample. We report stitch counts, not exact thread length or skeins.
